Buccaneer Stroke School
Buccaneer Stroke School is a noncompetitive program for the youngest members of the swim team. The goal of this fun program is to promote water safety and stroke development. Buccaneers is a great way to transition from weekly swim lessons to participating at the Raider level. To be considered for the Buccaneer program swimmers should be comfortable enough to put their face in the water, know the fundamentals of swimming and be able to listen and follow directions. The Buccaneer program will be run by our Sherwood Raiders swim coaches and assisted by volunteer swim team members. Unlike Sherwood Raiders swim practice, coaches will be in the water with our Buccaneers, helping them gain confidence and ensuring their safety. During the season it is possible for a Buccaneer swimmer to “graduate” to the regular swim team practice session. The general criteria used to determine when a child is ready to move up are the ability to legally swim both freestyle and backstroke – 25 yards each. The cost for this program is $125 per child.
Buccaneer Practice Schedule:
• Wednesdays – 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
• Thursdays – 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Saturdays – 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

I’m so excited to finally be a part of the Sherwood family!! I started swimming for Green Valley at the age of 4 and the sport has been a huge part of my life ever since. I swam for GVP, Grimsley, and Star through my senior year of high school, where I was a city meet champ, conference champ, regional champ, state top 3 finisher, and junior national qualifier. I was the assistant coach at Green Valley through college where we won city meet multiple years and won the Stancil Award in 2017 (my fav coaching moment!). Once I graduated college, I coached for Swim Fanatics for many years where I met some of the amazing Sherwood families that I can’t wait to spend the summer with! I love the tradition and culture surrounding Sherwood and am so excited to be a part of the team. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get this summer started!!

2024 Swim Lessons
We are excited to be offering private and semiprivate swim lessons this summer! We will be updating this page with the 2024 schedule and ways to book lesson appointments soon.
For children aged 5 we also have the Buccaneer program which helps your swimmer gain confidence in the water, get to know the coaches and other swimmers their own age with the hopes that they will become a Sherwood Raider at the end of the season!
