Head Swim Coach Job Description

Sherwood Swim and Racquet Club is seeking an experienced Head Coach for the 2020 summer swim season.

The Raiders are a well-established and successful summer swim team located at 100 Alma Pinnix Drive.  We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individual to serve as our head coach and provide exceptional technical instruction to approximately 120 swimmers of all ability levels in our competitive summer swim league.

The ideal candidate should have coaching and swimming experience, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to connect with children from grades K-12, and a willingness to get in the water to provide stroke correction and refinement. The head coach will work closely with the assistant coaches to successfully complete the many day-to-day responsibilities of running a dynamic practice.

The responsibilities of the job include:

  • Promoting a fun, safe, and team-oriented environment;
  • Being a role model for the swimmers;
  • Running practices for each age group in both the morning and evenings;
  • Maintaining control and safety of swimmers;
  • Overseeing and providing direction to a staff of assistant coaches, junior coaches, and coaches-in-training;
  • Preparing meet entries using Meet Manager;
  • Communicating with parents regarding expectations, meets, and questions;
  • Providing stroke technique instruction for beginning and intermediate swimmers;
  • Overseeing the set-up and tear down of the pool and pool deck at all home meets;
  • Reviewing meet results (including disqualification issues) and working with swimmers to improve performance;
  • Providing an encouraging environment while fostering learning and team spirit;
  • Being willing to get in the water to fine tune stroke mechanics;
  • Providing one-on-one instruction to younger swimmers as needed;
  • Attending all scheduled practices and dual meets; and
  • Facilitating a weekly meeting of the coaching staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ year experience as a head coach, an assistant coach, or documented success as a year-round, high school, or college swimmer;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Effective communications skills (for children and parents);
  • FirstAid/CPR/AED training & American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches;
  • Experience with Team Manager and Meet Manager preferred but not required; and
  • Sherwood reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by the head coach. The coach may be requested to perform other job-related tasks other than those specifically presented here.

Compensation: Negotiable based on experience

Practice Schedule:

Daily afternoon practices begin Monday, May 11.

First morning practice begins Tuesday, May 26.

AM:               8:30 to 9:30 a.m. for 8 & unders*

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for 9 & older*

These practice times are the same every Saturday

Wednesday mornings after a swim meet all age groups will practice together from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

PM:                5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for experienced 8 & unders*

5:45 to 7:00 for 9 & older*

There is no Saturday afternoon practice.

 

*Subject to minor adjustments based on need.

Meet Schedule: TBD but may occur on the evenings of June 2nd, June 9th, June 16th, June 23rd, and June 30th at 5:00pm. All coaches will need to be at the pool by 3:30pm on meet days.

 

 

Assistant Swim Coach, Junior Swim Coach, and Coach-in-Training Job Description

Sherwood Swim and Racquet Club is seeking assistant coaches, junior coaches, and coaches-in-training for the 2020 summer swim season.

The Raiders are a well-established and successful summer swim team located at 100 Alma Pinnix Drive.  We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individuals to assist the head coach and provide exceptional technical instruction to approximately 120 swimmers of all ability levels in our competitive summer swim league.

  • Running Buccaneer Stroke School, a noncompetitive program for the youngest members of the swim team (for assistant coaches and assisting with the School for junior coaches and coaches-in-training);

  • Providing stroke technique instruction for beginning and intermediate swimmers as directed by the head coach;
  • Assisting in the set-up and tear down of the pool and pool deck at all home meets;
  • Reviewing meet results (including disqualification issues) and working with swimmers to improve performance and directed by the head coach;
  • Providing an encouraging environment while fostering learning and team spirit;
  • Being willing to get in the water to fine tune stroke mechanics;
