Buccaneer Stroke School is a noncompetitive program for the youngest members of the swim team. The goal of this fun program is to promote water safety and stroke development. Buccaneers is a great way to transition from weekly swim lessons to participating at the Raider level. To be considered for the Buccaneer program swimmers should be comfortable enough to put their face in the water, know the fundamentals of swimming and be able to listen and follow directions. The Buccaneer program will be run by our Sherwood Raiders swim coaches and assisted by volunteer swim team members. Unlike Sherwood Raiders swim practice, coaches will be in the water with our Buccaneers, helping them gain confidence and ensuring their safety. During the season it is possible for a Buccaneer swimmer to “graduate” to the regular swim team practice session. The general criteria used to determine when a child is ready to move up are the ability to legally swim both freestyle and backstroke – 25 yards each. The cost for this program is $100 per child.
