David Leatherwood
Director of Tennis

David was named the Director of Tennis at Sherwood in June of 2004. David has been a USPTA certified Tennis Teaching Professional for  21 years.

David grew up in El Paso, Texas where he achieved rankings of top 10 in the Southwest section as a junior.  He played two years at the nationally ranked Odessa Junior College and completed his sophomore year ranked third in the country achieving All-American status.  David went on to play at Texas Tech University where he played #2 singles both years and was team captain his senior year.

David, USTA rated 5.0 continues to compete as the captain of a Greensboro USTA 5.5 team which competes against his former teammates, friends and colleagues, yea! This will be his seventh year as the Director of Tennis at Sherwood.

David is married to Julie and has one son, Jack.

Clayton Langheim

Head Tennis Professional

Clayton grew up in South Africa and was ranked in the top 15 in Juniors in his country.  He received the award for ”Freshman of the Year” at Troy State.  Clayton finished his tennis and education at Cambellesville University.   As a traveling coach, went to the US Open with Alexander Wozniak.  He has training in high performance coaching and coached a national Chinese Junior team in 2008. He  has been PTR   certified at the highest Coaching  level .  Clayton currently holds a USTA rating of 5.5 and plays actively in USTA leagues.   Clayton married this past September.  His bride Ashleigh from Greenville, SC is a child psychologist with Thomasville School System.

Matt Fridell

Staff Professional

Matt grew up in Asheville and was a semi-dominant high school players.  He has earned his degree from UNCG and played club tennis at UNCG.  Matt works both on the court and in the shop.  He is working the summer camps and is solid 4.0, active USTA player.

 

Eric Smith

Eric is Head of Maintenance and Court Maintenance for Sherwood.  Eric has been employed by Sherwood since 2006.  Eric is instrumental in keeping the courts at Sherwood in great shape and sets a high standard for the court conditions.
